Removing Your Name from Mailing Lists

The reputable organizations who use direct marketing to communicate with consumers are respectful of your privacy and are committed to honoring your wishes as best they can. Through our trade organization, the Direct Marketing Association, we have joined in the Privacy Promise, which assures your request for removal from lists will be honored.

Direct Media is a List Broker and List Manager, which means that we arrange for companies to rent lists from other companies. We do not actually own any lists, and the lists themselves are never actually in our hands. As a media agent, we process a large volume of orders and generally we are not able to determine where a particular name comes from.

The organization you are concerned about may have your name on their customer list. If so, they should honor your request for removal. However, they have gotten your name from another organization and they are mailing as a prospective customer. In that case, they have gotten your name for a one-time mailing, and you are not yet on their customer list. They may be able to tell you which list your name came from, and you should be able to contact that first organization and get your name removed.

We suggest that if you do not wish to receive direct mail, request your name be added to the Direct Marketing Association's Mail Preference Service list, which is used by the major direct marketing companies in our industry. You can register to have your name added to this list on-line at the following email address. When you reach the Direct Marketing Association's web-site area for Consumers, simply click on the white box on the left of the screen, which will assist you in registering to have your name added to their list, which advises direct mail companies that you do not wish to receive unsolicited direct mail. Their website is: http://www.dmaconsumers.org/

Data Security

As a media sales agent, DMI never actually possesses the names and addresses on mailing lists. Even so, we recognize the need for this data to be kept secure and confidential. We expect the data service firms who handle the lists we manage and broker to enforce the highest possible security standards. In nearly every data transaction, the parties involved are well-known and respected firms, who are also member of the Direct Marketing Association and have accepted its Privacy Policy and Code of Ethical Business Practices.

More information on data security can be found on the DMA's website at:

Protecting Consumers from Fraud

DMI makes every effort to assure that the offers sent to consumer by our clients are fair and honest. We're proud of the clients we serve, who are among the most respected organizations in the world.

As a media agent, we require all users of our managed lists to submit a sample of the marketing text they will be using, whether it is a mailing piece, email or, on rare occasion, a telemarketing script. But we cannot guarantee that every offer sent will conform with every possible regulation, and we must rely on the marketer itself to assure compliance with these regulations.

If you believe you have received a fraudulent offer from one of our clients, please email us at privacy@directmedia.com or reach us by phone at 203-532-1000. We will make every effort to direct you to organizations we believe can resolve your complaint.
